The 4 R's of Independent Learning

We are learning to become Independent Learners.

To help us with this we use the 4 R's of Independent Learning that were created by a man named Guy Claxton.

Resilience
We know we can do this when we:
1) Persevere
2) Manage distractions
3) Absorb ourselves in our learning

Resourcefulness
We know we can do this when we:
1) Ask questions of ourselves and others
2) Make links
3) Imagine
4) Use reason
5) Capitalize on the resources of the wider world- people, books, internet, past experiences

Reciprocity
We know we can do this when we:
1) Know when it's right to work on our own or with a group
2) Know how to respect other boys' point of view when working in a group
3) Show empathy and can listen
4) Imitate when we observe good habits or ideas

Reflectiveness
We know we can do this when we:
1) Plan our learning
2) Revise our plans
3) Become our own learning coach
4) Know how we learn best and can talk about the learning process
